ARTS AND CULTURE

The Historic Downtown is poised to become the next big thing in downtown LA. Combining historic architecture, a uniquely urban setting, elaborate landmark theaters and global influences, a renaissance is quietly and organically evolving. Recent and planned investment in the Historic Downtown are bringing this spectacular place more fully alive, realizing its grand potential.

Here's what's happening in the Historic Downtown…

  • After a $3 million renovation, the lavish Orpheum Theater, with its radiant marble, comfortable new seats and air conditioning, attracts live music events, film premieres, and theatrical productions. www.laorpheum.com
  • The hip "new" Downtown Palace presents cutting-edge entertainment, local community culture and mainstream programming. www.downtownpalace.com
  • Nightclubs entice club-goers to venues ranging from chic to grunge, playing everything from punk and pop to hip hop and salsa.
    • The Smell - a Main Street storefront with alternative music and art www.thesmell.org
    • Score - an old-school gay dance bar
    • Orion/Teknoklub - all ages techno-rave at the Globe Theater
    • Stock Exchange Club - a stylish spot for pop, hip hop and rock Espaρol at the historic Los Angeles Stock Exchange
