UNION STATION FAMILY TOUR

October 2007 Launch Event
Volunteer docent John Ghini leads a tour group through Union Station, describing its rich history and beautiful architecture. Photo by Larry Underhill.

On Sunday, October 28, 2007, the Conservancy launched its youth and family outreach initiative with the premiere of the Union Station Family Tour, our first regular walking tour designed for children and families. The tour comes with a new full-color Kids’ Guide to Union Station.

We celebrated this exciting new offering with an afternoon of tours and an arts-and-crafts activity fair. See below for photos of the event and examples of our guests' handiwork!

Thank you to all of our sensational volunteers and participating families, with a special thank you to Ranney B. Draper and the Draper Family Foundation for turning this program into a reality.

Launch Event Photos

Many thanks to professional photographer and longtime Conservancy volunteer Larry Underhill for his photos of our October 28 kickoff event.

Kids help out during the tour by finding geometric shapes and patterns in Union Station.
Here comes a train!
Some budding preservationists line up for a group portrait.
Part of the kickoff event was a special activity fair. Here, longtime Conservancy volunteer Margit Meeker helps a tourgoer paint his own ceramic tile based on the patterns found along the tiled walls of Union Station.
Another special activity was designing your own building based on shapes and patterns found in Union Station. See them all below!
Conservancy staffers Marcello Vavala and April Arrozal (with red nametags) join in on the fun.

One of the activities at the launch event was for kids to design their own building using the shapes and patterns found in Union Station. Many thanks to the talented and creative kids who let us share their work with the world!
