About the Film

The directorial debut of the legendary John Huston, The Maltese Falcon stars Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor in what is considered by many to be the first major film noir.

Bogart stars as Sam Spade, a private investigator who, along with his partner, is hired by a mysterious woman named Ruth Wonderly (Astor) to look into the disappearance of her sister.

However, the murders of his partner and the man he was hired to follow reveal that there was never a missing sister. As the plot twists and turns, Spade learns that Ms. Wonderly is really Brigid O’Shaughnessy, one of several people struggling to obtain the legendary Maltese Falcon, a golden, jewel-encrusted bird statuette.

Where is the Maltese Falcon, and how much is it worth? Is it worth the price of love? Is it worth the price of a person’s life? This mystery keeps the questions coming and the audience on the edge of their seats.
