About the Film

Released in 1976, this satirical film feels just as relevant and timely today as it was over 40 years ago.

Howard Beale (Peter Finch), a longtime news anchor at the fictional UBS television station finds out that he will be fired due to low ratings. When he has an outburst on the air, the show’s ratings spike, and network executives decide to exploit Beale’s anger and influence. Eventually, young UBS executive Diana Christensen (Faye Dunaway) develops a sensationalized “news” show which features Beale expressing his outrage at the state of the world, a psychic predicting the next day’s news, and more.

This film, which feels like it prophesized today’s non-news TV news station programming, earned numerous accolades at the time of its release. Faye Dunaway earned both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for her performance, as did Peter Finch.
