Maywood adopted a historic preservation ordinance in 2010 as an “Urgency Ordinance” as a result of concerns that the Los Angeles Unified School District was purchasing several parcels with single family residences to clear for a school expansion.
The ordinance does not establish the ability to designate historic districts, and the designation of individual landmarks requires owner consent. However, the City has not been active in the use of its historic preservation ordinance, and has not yet designated any landmarks.
