The Conservancy partnered with local advocates to nominate the Canyon Country Store as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument (HCM).

With your support, the Conservancy removed cost barriers for schools. Starting this year, all student programs are free, and we’re offering limited transportation assistance to help more schools participate. Your donation helps young people across L.A. County discover local heritage and understand how historic places can shape the future.

Students in The Heritage Project explored more than 30 historic sites over three weeks in our impactful summer intensive. 

Women have shaped Los Angeles in countless ways, yet many of their contribution remain hidden or unheard of. The L.A. Women’s Landmarks Project, in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Where Women Made History initiative uncovers and celebrates the homes, workplaces, and gathering places that tell these stories. Your donation allows us to preserve these sites and ensure women’s history is part of the City’s story.

The Los Angeles Conservancy in partnership with the National Trust and Los Angeles City Council District 15 (CD 15) nominated the Etta James Residence in the Athens on the Hill neighborhood as a Historic-Cultural Monument (HCM) in recognition of the international legacy of this Grammy award winning performer. 

Through events, walking tours, and programs like Last Remaining Seats, we help people experience historic places first-hand and better understand their role in L.A.’s future. Last Remaining Seats welcomes thousands of moviegoers to L.A.’s magnificent movie palaces every summer and fall.

Preservation adds balance to housing. Adaptive reuse, preserving older and historic homes, and sensitive density are practical and sustainable paths to more housing in Los Angeles. The Conservancy supports communities and advocates on behalf of preservation solutions for historic places, like L.A.’s General Hospital, which will soon represent one of the largest housing conversion projects nationwide.

For years, we’ve championed L.A. County’s legacy businesses by raising awareness, building a network and grant program, and advocating for supportive policies. Most recently, we created a toolkit for the City of L.A.’s Legacy Business Program. Your support helps keep these businesses a priority across Los Angeles.
