Preservation Perspectives: Meet the 2026 L.A. City Council Candidates
Learn about local Los Angeles candidates' take on preservation before Election Day on November 3rd!
Welcome to Preservation Perspectives: Meet the 2026 L.A. City Council Candidates—a series of interviews with run-off candidates in the November general election.
In Los Angeles, preservation sits at the crossroads of many pressing issues, including development, housing, supporting legacy businesses, and community building and more. It offers tools that help us build more livable and just communities.
This year’s series will feature pre-recorded interviews with candidates from Council District 9, an area of Los Angeles that contains high concentrations of historic places. Hear Estuardo Mazariegos and Jose Ugarte, discuss their views on historic preservation and its role in their vision for Los Angeles and the district.
Council District 9 includes many historic and diverse neighborhoods and communities, as well as, international destinations. It extends from the L.A. Convention Center and the L.A. Live Complex at the northern edge to Vermont Square to the west, the Central-Alameda Corridor to the east and Green Meadows to the south.
While the Conservancy cannot endorse political candidates, we aim to provide information to help voters make an informed decision.
The pre-recorded interviews are now available on our website and YouTube channel.
