Lee’s Hoagie House, a beloved Pasadena eatery, was founded 38 years ago by Lebanese immigrant Shahan Der Ohannesian. Now run by his son Shaunt Der Ohannesian, the business continues to thrive as a staple in the community. Shaunt, deeply involved in day-to-day operations, views his work not as a job but as a passion, enjoying meaningful connections with loyal customers—98% of whom are repeat visitors. He remembers their names and preferences and often offers free meals during their tough times, reinforcing a sense of family and care.

The shop’s longevity stems from three core principles: using fresh ingredients based on accurate predictions of daily demand, fostering profound community bonds, and ensuring hands-on management. Leftover ingredients are donated to those in need, reflecting the family’s values and social responsibility. The restaurant is also known for its signature Chicken Hoagie, a happy accident turned customer favorite, alongside hearty breakfasts like omelettes and steak & eggs.

Shaunt Der Ohannesian is excited to participate in the L.A. Conservancy Legacy Business project, highlighting its cultural significance. Shaunt’s dedication, personal touch, and genuine love for the business suggest a bright future for this family-run gem, which hopes to serve the community for many more decades.
