Calabasas established a strong historic preservation program in 2008, when the city adopted its historic preservation ordinance, implemented the Mills Act, and began conducting its first citywide survey of historic resources.
The city has continued to make great strides in developing its preservation program. Calabasas became a Certified Local Government in 2009, indicating its strong commitment to a professionalized preservation program.
The city has also been actively designating local landmarks, which include structures from the recent past of the 1970s and ’80s, and is adding cultural landscapes to the city’s historic context statement.
