Overview
On March 4, 2026, the Los Angeles City Council voted to designate the Brady Bunch House as a Historic-Cultural Monument, ensuring long-term protection for one of television’s most recognizable homes. The two-story single-family home in Studio City served the main setting of the popular television show The Brady Bunch, which aired from 1969 to 1974. This iconic mid-century residence—with its distinctive gabled roof and split-level design—has helped shape generations’ understanding of a blended family and the quintessential suburban Los Angeles home.
On January 15, the iconic television home of the Brady Bunch family was recommended for designation by the Cultural Heritage Commission. Brady Bunch co-producer Lloyd Schwartz, Barry Williams (“Greg Brady”), and Christopher Knight (“Peter Brady”) all spoke in support of the landmarking the residence. The contemporary ranch house in Studio City was used for establishing shots, but subsequent efforts by HGTV and the current owner have painstakingly recreated the interiors to match what was depicted on the show. The Commission initially debated limiting the designation to the exterior of the house but ultimately concluded that the interior warranted protection as well.
Callers and speakers showed overwhelming support for preserving this important house. of television history, and especially the owner for taking such good care of the house. The Cultural Heritage Commission first voted to consider The Brady Bunch House as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument on November 6, 2025 and held a hearing on January 15th.
Many thanks to the current owner for her efforts to keep, curate, and preserve the Brady Bunch House, including having it designated and protected as a local landmark!
About This Place
About This Place
The Brady Bunch House is a two-story single-family home with a detached garage, located in Studio City. Completed in 1959 and designed by Harry Londelius Jr. in the Contemporary Ranch style, the home’s exterior appeared in numerous establishing shots for The Brady Bunch during its run from 1969 to 1974. Although the show’s interior scenes were shot on soundstages, the home’s familiar front façade, driveway, and yard captured the hearts of millions and came to symbolize California suburban living for an entire generation.
The home features a cross and side gabled roof, a welcoming front porch, and large windows that fill the interior with natural light. Its colorful landscaping and distinctive architecture make it instantly recognizable, even decades after the show aired. In 2019, on HGTV’s “A Very Brady Renovation,” the interior of the house was reconstructed to match the original film sets, with the help of the original cast.
SurveyLA identified the property as individually eligible for local and state landmark designation due to its association with the television series.
Our Position
The Los Angeles Conservancy supports this nomination, recognizing the house for its cultural significance and the important role it plays as a seminal location in Los Angeles’ television and filming heritage. We’re thrilled that this treasured home has officially achieved landmark status.
