Pomona

Pomona contains a remarkable diversity of historic resources ranging from adobe to Victorian-era nineteenth century residences to postwar modernism of the twentieth century.

The city adopted its historic preservation ordinance in 1988 and has designated both local landmarks and historic districts.

As a preservation incentive, the city offers the popular Mills Acts property tax abatement program.

Pomona’s Historic Preservation Commission reviews proposed demolitions to all structures throughout the city that are forty-five years of age or older.

A citywide survey of historic resources was completed in 1993, and survey updates since that time include a postwar housing tract. Pomona has been a Certified Local Government since 2003.
