West Hollywood

At only 1.9 square miles in area, West Hollywood is one of the smallest cities in the county, yet it has a remarkable architectural and cultural heritage.

West Hollywood has been a Certified Local Government since 1991 and has a variety of protections and incentives available as part of its historic preservation program.

Incentives include the popular Mills Acts property tax abatement program, as well as waiving permit fees and parking and setback requirements.

The city’s historic preservation ordinance does not require owner consent to designate landmarks, making it particularly strong.

In 2008, West Hollywood completed an update of its historic resource inventory, which includes a revised context statement of the city’s unique growth and development.

In addition to the Historic Preservation Element linked at left, most of the following resources are specific to West Hollywood. For general resources related to local preservation and our Preservation Report Card, please visit our Report Card microsite.
