Many Memories of Wilshire

I remember the La Brea tar pits, the former Bullocks Wilshire building, the Wilshire Blvd. Temple (oldest Jewish congregation in Los Angeles) founded in 1873 on the corner of Fourth street (now Broadway) and Third Street.

I am interested in the history of Los Angeles, Douglas Park on Wilshire Blvd. Between Chelsea and 25th street in Santa Monica. The first headquarters of Douglas Aircraft Company.

In 1933-1934 Jackson Barnett (the Indian) directing traffic on Wilshire Blvd. Near Rimpau. The Goodyear blimp landing on the corner of Wilshire and Fairfax Ave. Boat riding on Westlake Park.

Bullocks Wilshire, the first department store in the U.S. with an entrance in the rear so people could enter from the parking lot. Breakfast at Armstrong Schroeders at Wilshire near Santa Monica Blvd., with Shirley temple often there.

Also two golf driving ranges. One where the Beverly Hilton is at Wilshire and Sepulveda Blvd.
