Since its opening in 1923, the Biltmore Hotel’s magnificent architecture has attracted celebrities and dignitaries, including Rudolph Valentino, the Prince of Wales, J. Paul Getty, Howard Hughes, Herbert Hoover, and Eleanor Roosevelt.

Alongside its high-end clientele, the hotel has a history of opening its doors to groups not always welcomed in elite circles. It was a hub for the LGBTQ+ community throughout the 1940s and ‘50s. A decade later, it was listed in the Green Book as a safe, travel-friendly location for members of the Black community. It also hosted many events and ceremonies for the Black community throughout the 1960s and beyond.
