Baldwin Park established its historic preservation program in 1988 with the adoption of a historic preservation ordinance.  The ordinance allows for the designation of both individual landmarks and historic districts, though the City has not been active in the use of the ordinance.  The City has only designated one landmark in the past, the former Central School Auditorium, but it was ultimately de-listed in the mid-1990s.  The City’s Planning Division has faced recent staffing cuts because of budgetary constraints.
