People + Places: Judson Studios and the Architecture of Light

Judson Studios’ reputation has preceded it for more than a century!
Join us as we speak to our friends at Judson Studios, America’s oldest family-run stained glass company. Founded by the visionary artist William Lees Judson in 1897, the company’s reputation has woven a rich tapestry of art and history for over a century!
As an expert in stained glass art, Judson Studios is responsible for many brilliant projects in Los Angeles. They design and fabricate works of art in glass to meet clients’ needs locally, nationally, and internationally, with timeless elegance and exquisite craftsmanship. Some of L.A.’s most iconic sites feature work from Judson Studios: from the stained-glass dome inside the Natural History Museum’s rotunda (1914) to the Central Library’s stunning globe chandelier (1921) to the elegant windows adorning Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House (1925), and much much more.
Judson Studios is a leader and a visionary in its field. It still operates out of the historic former USC School of Fine Arts building (1911) in Highland Park and two other facilities. With a world-class roster of artists, it constantly develops cutting-edge restoration techniques and innovates the future of stained, fused, and architectural glass.
Join us as we welcome David Judson, fifth-generation president of Judson Studios, for a virtual tour of the historic studios, a discussion of the company’s imprint on L.A.’s built environment, and a peek at what lies in store for their future.
