Glendora has a longstanding commitment to preservation but, like many cities, its preservation program has suffered from recent budget constraints.
The city established its historic preservation ordinance in 1988 and began implementing several components of its historic preservation program.
The city has designated one historic district and nearly three dozen local landmarks, although owner consent is required for designation. A citywide survey of historic resources was completed in 1990.
Because of recent budget constraints, the city’s dedicated Historic Preservation Commission was disbanded in 2012, with the Planning Commission now assuming their duties.
Glendora also discontinued its Historical Preservation Grant, which provided modest funding for properties within the city’s historic district.
Glendora does offer another important preservation incentive, the popular Mills Act property tax abatement program for owners of designated historic properties. The city also does not charge fees for Certificates of Appropriateness.
